Mennonite Disaster Service is a channel through which volunteers give of their time to respond to those affected by disasters. This past fall both hurricanes Katrina and Rita have devastated much of the Gulf Coast . Seven people from SoCal joined people from Canada, OH, PA, MI and IN to rebuild homes and lives to those victimized by this tradgedy. We volunteered two weeks of service, we did roofing, drywalling, siding, and mucking. Our site was Point Aux Chenes, Louisiana which is located about two hours south of New Orleans on the Cajun Bayous. This was a great time of service where we felt like we recieved more that what we gave. Ask any of us to tell our MDS story!
